Thermal Energy Networks for a Sustainable Future

The UpgradeNY collaborative brought together stakeholders from utilities, regulators, the buildings industry, and workers and leaders from the trades for a discussion of the opportunities for thermal energy networks to decarbonize our buildings at scale to achieve New York’s climate goals while building a local, diverse, union clean energy workforce. Check out this video recapping the presentations and discussions from this event during NYC's 2023 Climate Week, hosted at the Steamfitters Local 638 Training Center in Long Island City. On behalf of the UpgradeNY Coalition, we are thrilled to invite you to our upcoming Climate Week event, “Thermal Energy Networks for a Sustainable Future,” where we will discuss the integration of Thermal Energy Networks (TENs) as a mainstream clean energy solution and how we can address critical workforce challenges in this sector.

TENs have a major role to play in New York’s plan to achieve the clean energy targets set out in the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, the most ambitious climate law in the nation. By fostering a robust union workforce and local economic development, TENs have the potential to transform the clean energy playing field and unlock neighborhood-scale building decarbonization across the state.

This event, sponsored by Rise Light & Power, will showcase specific TEN projects, explore pilot programs, workforce opportunities, and discuss their alignment with New York's clean energy goals.
